Double Page Spread Close Analysis

The double page spread that I chose, was from the niche magazine "Kerrang!" which was started in 1981.It is a magazine based on the subculture of rock and concentrates on rock bands and reviews, it apears to aimed at a mainly male audience since males are seen to be more "into" rock, and the colours are mainly blue, black, grey and red with the occasional splash of bright colour in photographs.
In this double page spread the majority of the double page is taken up by a picture of that band (You Me at Six) that are being featured in this issue of 'Karrang!' The photograph has been taken with a sepia lense to creat a soft image of the band. This goes with the fact that the title of the article is "YOU ME AT SIX PREPARE TO SHAKE OFF THEIR POP-PUNK "STIGMA".." this therefore gives the impression that they no longer want to be seen as a rough and clean-cut as other artists. The very large and obvious statement that has been taken from the text on the left but enlarged on the right "WE WILL CHANGE YOUR OPINION!" is eye catching to the reader as if they were to be flicking through this may make them wonder as to what this article is about, thus resulting in them reading it.
This particular article reads as though it has been written from the male perspective, this is due to the fact that the language it is written in is very blunt and straight to the point where as if it were to have been written by a woman it would possibly be more elaborate. This article is particularly aimed at teenage boys or girls of the punk-rock genre as it is covering a band that plays that genre of music and would be known buy both girls and boys who are into the more alternative/punk-rock sounds.
As there is not a lot of text in this actual article it would also appeal to the younger audience as they are not always interested in reading page after page of text. They would much rather read something that is short but you still know what is happening.
On this particular article there is only one advert in the top right hand corner and this is for Karrang!'s own website. However through out the magazine as a whole there is some what 43 advertisments, whether that be full pages advertising one product or just half/quarter pages advertising companies or gigs.
